Our trip

back

The wirehaired Vizsla is now 40 years old, this was the reason for Lies van Essen and me to visit the Slovakia again! It was the weekend of the Club Show. .

18052006:
We started and we arrived in Sturova at around 8 o'clock in the morning, we found a nice hotel and then we had a good breakfast, so that we were fit for the day. Then we met Mr. Stribik ( Kennel - Garamparty) to look at his dogs. We went with him to see his dogs working in the field, they worked well! Before we started our journey Mr. Stribik has told us that he had two wires for sale, but they were not what we wanted, which was a shame..

We drove back to our hotel and were both a little disappointed because when you make such a long journey to the country where the breed originated you hope to find the best! Now the question was what to do with the next two days because the show was on the Sunday. Fortunately the hotel had internet access so we searched for some phone numbers of Hungarian breeders! We found the number from Kati Noverzki (Kennel - Csörvarberki). We were lucky that she lived only 50 km from our hotel. We jumped into the car and drove to her.

After 2 hours we arrived at Kati's and we were welcomed and met her great dogs Csövarberki Dömper , Diana Danubius , Csovarberki Nimpha , the old Bodohegyi Mano , and her other top dog Csovarberki Csuszli (short haired).

Ingeborg fell in love with this young female. Ofcourse Nimpha was not for sale, but after some time, Kati said that she wanted to breed with Nimpha, but that it was very difficult for her to find a suitable male. After some discussion, it was agreed that we could take Nimpha, after promising that Kati has first choice to obtain a new suitable male puppy, as to be able to bring new blood into the Hungarian bloodlines. After midnight we came back in our hotel.. with Nimpha! Nimpha is owned by Ingeborg and I am her co-owner!

On Saturday morning we had time to make a visit to Eztergom. In the afternoon we drove once again to Mr. Stribik and we visited an old male "Alf Paronna". After that visit we drove to the little town CIFER, where the show was being held the next day. We found a hotel near by and we walked Nimfa, then we went to be early as it was going to be a long day on Sunday as we were going to visit the show, make the interview with Stefan Hrncar and then drive back 1100 km.

It was a nice day with nice people and a lot of hunting dogs. At the show there were only 9 wires and 25 shorthaired vizslas. The best part of the day was to meet the 'Grand Old Man' of the wires, Stefan Hrncar, you can read the interview with him. A few days earlier he had had his 75th birthday. He is a very knowledgeable man and has many stories to tell about this breed. Click here for the interview

And an unexpected ending of the day. At the beginning of the show, I asked a handler for the name of his female wire haired Vizsla. She was very pretty and gentle. He responded that he wanted to sell her, since he was in need of cash. After some discussions with my husband, it was agreed that we would take her home. Her name is Hejocsabai Huncut and she now lives with us in St Willebrord. During my typing she is sleeping on my feet and obviously happy with her new life!
